How to bleach teeth?

Teeth are bleached by the use of trays and are prescribed by a dental specialist, guaranteeing the patient a treatment adapted to his needs and safety in his follow-up.

How is this treatment carried out?

During the first session, the specialist will first carry out an oral examination.

It is essential to perform dental care before the start of this type of treatment.

The specialist will then determine the stains causative agents and confirm foods, drinks or tobacco habits.

Next, impressions of the patient’s upper and lower jaws will be made in order to obtain individual bleaching trays produced by a laboratory.

During the second and last session, the specialist will try the individual trays on the patient’s teeth and approve their compliance.

The initial shade of the patient’s teeth will be assessed and the right shade will be determined according to the patient’s expectations.

Lastly, he will also explain how to do this bleaching at home.

How to do my bleaching at home?

Here are the steps to follow for optimal results:

  • Brush your teeth to increase the effectiveness of the bleaching gel.

  • Put a drop of gel inside the trays on the front face of the teeth.

  • Insert the trays in your mouth and position them correctly.

  • Remove the excess gel with a cotton swab or tissue.

  • Wear the trays at night.

  • Remove the trays and brush your teeth.

  • Clean the trays with cold water and store them in their case.

White spots may appear on the teeth. These spots will disappear at the end of the treatment.

What should you know about this treatment?

  • Treatment duration: the bleaching treatment takes one to two weeks depending on the color and the desired result.
  • Hypersensitivity: this treatment can cause teeth hypersensitivity during the procedure. It is usually transient and spontaneously disappear at the end of the treatment. In this case, the specialist will recommend a toothpaste specifically designed to reduce sensititvity.

  • Contraindication: pregnant or breastfeeding women, people with major periodontal problems, people allergic to peroxide.

  • Therapeutical effects: teeth whitening is immediately effective, and the results vary from patient to patient depending on their oral hygiene and habits. In most cases, the effects will persist for one to two years. Sometimes, it will remain for several years.
