Varicosity or telangiectasia is a permanent dilation of very small red, blue or purple veins. They measure between 0.1 and 1 mm and are lodged in the deep layer of the dermis.
Spider veins are often located on the thighs, calves, or feet. Sometimes also on the face. They are then part of the pathology called rosacea.
Its appearance is often a sign of chronic venous insufficiency, linked to the fragility of the venous circulation. Heredity, aging, hormonal changes (pregnancy, etc.), overweight, and yoyo effects can also promote its appearance.
From a medical point of view, it is not necessary to remove spider veins, as they do not present any direct danger.
There are several types of varicosities of different size and color.
Varicose veins ≠ varicosity: venous incompetence is the cause of varicose veins while varicosities can be due to an inherited defect of the vein wall. The varicosity can turn into a varicose vein and become painful. It will therefore have to be treated at the source with appropriate interventions.
How to fight against varicose veins?
- Do not sit or stand for a very long time.
- Adapt good positions, in particular avoiding the crossing of the legs.
- Avoid wearing high-heeled shoes.
- Wear compression stockings on long plane or train journeys.
- Exercise regularly.
- Adapt a healthy eating routine (less salt, more fiber).
How does the vascular laser work?
The ND Yag laser is the reference laser for erasing varicosities. The laser beam by selective action acts only on the blood vessel, which allows their elimination while respecting the surrounding skin.
What are the pre-laser instructions?
None.
What happens during a session?
The course of the session is done without anesthesia or anesthetic creams.
The intervention therefore begins with the cooling device to reduce discomfort. The session can still be unpleasant. Then, place the laser treatment which is done along each vessel. The session lasts between 15 and 30 minutes.
The result
At the end of the session, you will still see your vessels, but with some redness, and sometimes a little swelling around them. Hematomas may also appear and remain for 2 weeks.
What to do after the treatment?
It is recommended to apply a healing and soothing cream. The dilated vessels gradually fade after the session.
Depending on the type and thickness, between 2 and 4 sessions spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart are recommended for impeccable results. Visible result from 2 to 3 months.
A few reminders may be required, in particular one session per month during the winter months in order to prevent the varicosity which will return. It is therefore necessary to practice these sessions regularly to keep beautiful legs.
