DENTAL IMPLANTS

What is a dental implant?

Implants are “artificial roots” made of titanium alloy. They are placed in the jaws and support fixed or removable dentures to replace missing teeth.

The number and position of the implants needed therefore depend on the prosthesis project, previously defined with Dr. Oth or with your referent dentist but also on the bone available to put these implants.

How do I know if I am a good candidate to receive dental implants?

A consultation before implant placement is necessary to assess your medical status.

A jaw scan is also needed to evaluate the height and bone thickness available for implant placement.

So be sure to always come in consultation with your list of medications and any x-rays or scans that have already been made.

Whatever the situation and thanks to his expertise, Dr. Oth will be able to propose a solution to benefit from dental implants.

When to come for a consultation?

Ideally you should consult before extracting the bad teeth if there are any.

Thus, Dr. Oth will be able to perform atraumatic extractions and alveolar sockets preservation to be in the most favorable situation possible to put the implants.

After how long do I have my new teeth in my mouth?

In some cases and if you want the fastest possible result, the placement of the implants can be done at the same time as the tooth extraction.

The placement of the crowns on the implant can also be done very quickly after the placement of the implants, this will be discussed with you during the preoperative consultation.

How is the intervention done?

The procedure is most often performed under local anesthesia. This intervention is not painful.

General anesthesia is indicated only in the case of multiple implants, if associated surgical proceduresare needed, and / or following the medical status of the patient (medical pathology, cooperation, psychological state, …).

Guided implant surgery

Dr. Oth is at the forefront of all the latest technologies in the field of implantology.

He places implants under guided surgery: a simulation of the placement of the implant is done by computer and a surgical guide is printed in 3D. This guide contains all the information of the surgery.

Thus it is no longer necessary to extensively incise the mucosa to place the implant. So the postoperative period is reduced: less swelling, less pain, less bleeding. (link to 3D guide).

What if I do not have enough bone?

In some cases, bone regeneration is necessary to be able to place the implants either during the placement of the implant or during a session before the placement of the implant.

Dr. Oth also realizes all the implant techniques to be able to place the implants without bone reconstruction or with a minimum of bone reconstruction beforehand: Zygomatic implants, All-on-four® technique, …

What is the price of a dental implant?

A precise quotation will be made during the pre-operative consultation or will be sent by mail. The price of the implant will vary depending on the need or not to rebuild the bone. A very important parameter is the brand of the implant that will be placed.

Some unscrupulous clinics place implants from brands of lower quality that give very poor results in the long run. Dr. Oth only works with the best brands of implants available on the Belgian and international markets and at a very competitive price.

What are the operative sequences?

The normal postoperative course can be:

edema (swelling of the cheeks),

pain,

small bleeding

This information only concerns the placement phase of the implants and not the prosthetic realization.

Clinical and radiographic controls should be performed by the prosthesis practitioner.

Implantation of dental implants is an act that is not registered in the nomenclature of social security. During your consultation it will be exposed, for your specific case, the benefits, alternatives, risks and side effects of this act.
